Why Is GrumpyMomma So Grumpy?

I was a full-time attorney at a large law firm who ditched the career to care full-time for my two monkeys, psedonymized “Fred” and “Ginger” for purposes of this blog. I chose the names because these kids dance circles around me all day long.

I am a decent mom most of the time (except for the “how the heck do I handle THIS situation?!?” moments that seem to pop up at least once a day) and a rotten homemaker. I can’t cook, I hate to clean, I never intended to get married, let alone have kids and leave the career I worked so hard to achieve, I hate the suburbs, and I had planned to stay in the city forever. The perfect candidate to be a stay-at-home mom, yes?

I should also mention that I loved my singleton existence of eating every meal out of a take-out box and partying all weekend.

OK, I exaggerated that last bit. Frankly, I worked hours that were too long to give me much energy to party like a rock star. But I do love beer. And apparently I love GrumpyDaddy since I gave all of that up for my suburban housewife existence. Well, I didn’t give up the beer part. Actually, I recommend alcohol for others in my situation.

Anyway, here I am in my Twilight Zone existence. Fortunately my kids are adorable and GrumpyDaddy is a good husband, although I refer to him as my third child for reasons that will become clear in the blog. Nevertheless, I have many days where I stop, look around, and think, how on earth did I get here?

  1. Love your blog 🙂 I jump between wishing desparately I could be a SAHM and thanking the fates that I have a job I adore and don’t have to sacrifice to motherhood. Is it just an innate part of being a mother that makes you at least slightly disappointed no matter what you do? Oh well, I’d say it’s worth it.

Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comment! I agree that disappointment seems to be part of the job, and I suspect that we all consider the grass to be greener at some point. The moms who are 100% content with their decision, whatever it may be, are the fortunate ones!

I love that you are so honest! I’m not usually into Blogs, but found yours through the nest. I got married last year and we’ve been talking about having kids for a while, but I have a full-time career and have been thinking all of the things you’re writing (just not saying them to most). God love you!

Thank you so much for reading, and I’m so pleased that my blog’s subject matter resonates with you! I do try to be brutally honest, although I try to find humor in most things. I find it’s the best way to maintain my sanity. 🙂
